BACKGROUND

My career as an officer in the United States Army, serving for over 25 years. After retirement, I led divisions of companies such as Schlumberger, Zurich InvestmentManagement, SEI, and Weiss, Peck & Greer, in each case being responsible for a large budget. When my wife Lisa and I relocated to Winston-Salem, I joined the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army, helping to raise funds and increase awareness of the issues facing lower-income children in our community. Lisa and I have been married for over 45 years. We have raised two daughters, Meg and Allie. Meg and her husband Jake also live in Winston-Salem and have an almost 5-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son.
I’m a first-time candidate with a lifelong commitment to service. I bring a fresh perspective, leadership experience, and a
focus on accountability without agendas or personal politics. I’m running because I care about students, teachers, and thelong- term health of our schools.
In 25 years as an Army officer, and 25 years as a business leader, I believe leadership means planning ahead, being accountable, and using resources wisely. I want to help ensure our school system is financially stable and focused on student success.
While I’m not a career educator, I bring leadership and oversight experience from both the Army and my long career leading large organizations, where accountability and planning are critical. A strong board listens to educators, parents, and administrators and makes informed, responsible decisions.

COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION
Educating our children with excellence is crucial for their success and overall health and growth of our city and county. Communities that boast superior school systems can attract new businesses, contributing to economic development. Our public school ratings play a vital role in whether a company chooses Winston-Salem/Forsyth County for a new business. Investing in education is an investment our community's future.

One of my biggest concerns is long-term planning. When a system faces a large budget shortfall—like the $ million deficit—it can impact classrooms, staff, and trust. My focus is on strengthening oversight and making sure decisions are sustainable going forward.
We can prevent this from happening again by asking tough questions, insisting on clear financial reporting, and supporting long-term planning—not just short-term fixes. Fiscal discipline and transparency are essential to protecting classrooms.

My focus is on learning from where we are now and helping the district plan responsibly for the future. I am committed to hiring an outside independent audit firm that reports to the Board of Education. A forensic audit must be performed in order to restore confidence in the system that is at a historic low. Ongoing procedural audits must be completed going forward.

Students will always be my first priority. That means supporting strong classrooms, maintaining fiscal responsibility, improving transparency, and working collaboratively with families and educators.

Parents deserve clear communication and a voice in decisions that affect their children. I believe in respectful dialogue and accessibility. Parents should know that I take this responsibility seriously. Every decision affects children, families, and educators. I will approach the role with integrity, humility, and a commitment to doing what’s best for Forsyth County students.

Teachers and staff are the backbone of our schools. They deserve support, respect, and stability. Sound financial planning helps protect positions and reduces uncertainty for employees and families.
School board service should be about students and community, not politics. My focus is practical, responsible governance.

MISSION FOR THE FUTURE
Students, Parents, Teachers Accountability and Safety
Fiscal responsibility is crucial for the success of our school system, and board members must uphold their fiduciary duties with utmost integrity. By implementing better oversight and managing our schools with a business-minded approach, we can prevent misappropriation of funds that harms our students. Our children deserve a system that prioritizes their education and future.
